The Department of Orthopaedics of the affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College is a second-level key medical discipline in Sichuan Province, a national standardized training base for orthopedic residents, a Sichuan provincial standardized training base for orthopedic specialists, a Sichuan provincial training base for orthopedic specialist nurses, and a pilot unit for orthopedic surgery in the accelerated rehabilitation program of the National Health Commission. It serves as the leading unit for bone quality control in Nanchong City and the chairman of orthopaedic alliance of affiliated Hospital of Sichuan North Medical College. Additionally, it is a master's degree training point for North Sichuan Medical College, integrating clinical, scientific research, and teaching activities. The department is characterized by its concentration of high-level talents, robust research capabilities, and cutting-edge professional skills.

After prolonged cultivation, construction, and development, the Orthopedics department of the affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College has established a rational talent structure and a well-organized team. The department currently consists of 85 medical and nursing staff, including 35 doctors (5 professors/chief physicians, 6 associate professors/associate chief physicians, 12 lecturers/attending physicians, 2 with doctoral degrees, and 28 master's degree candidates), as well as 58 nurses (2 associate chief nurses and 11 supervisory nurses). Among them, there is one leading academic and technical figure appointed by the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission and one reserve talent for academic and technical leadership in Sichuan Province. Several members of the department hold positions such as chairman, vice chairman, committee member, and director in various academic organizations, including the Chinese Medical Association Hand Surgery Branch, the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine Spinal Endoscopy Fusion Committee, the Chinese Medical Association Orthopedics Branch Foot and Ankle Surgery Group, and others.

The clinical facilities are well-equipped, featuring advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic equipment such as the Beijing Chimat Intelligent Operating Room (with a remote consultation system, high-definition recording system, G-arm, C-arm), German Snakeplate high-definition television arthroscope, American Stryker ultra-clear television arthroscope, American Shuifamould disc mirror, German Joimax intervertebral foramen mirror, Maxtar minimally invasive spinal surgery instruments, Siemens C-arm X-ray machine, American Stryker orthopedic power system, intraoperative ultrasound bone knife, SEP monitor, and a portable bone density detector.

The department has pioneered several new technologies in the northeastern region of Sichuan, including scoliosis correction surgery, anterior cervical decompression and fixation surgery, posterior atlantoaxial screw internal fixation surgery, total hip replacement surgery for adult congenital hip dislocation, artificial hip and knee joint revision surgery, free toe-to-thumb reconstruction surgery, posterior spinal total resection surgery, posterior intervertebral disc endoscopy nucleus pulposus removal surgery, total knee arthroplasty, surgical treatment of complex acetabulum and pelvic fractures, MIPPO technology for limb fractures, nonunion bone transport surgery, arthroscopic knee ligament reconstruction surgery, percutaneous vertebral body posterior convexity shaping, foot and ankle deformity correction, minimally invasive repair of Achilles tendon rupture, and lateral bone transport surgery for diabetic foot. The department handles an average of 80,000 outpatient visits, admits over 6,000 inpatients, and performs more than 5,000 surgeries annually.

In the past three years, the department has published over 200 papers in domestic and international academic journals, including 20 SCI articles. It has secured funding for 14 research projects, including one National Natural Science Foundation of China youth research project, four projects from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, four projects from the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, three projects from the Sichuan Medical Association, and two projects from the Nanchong Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. The research funding exceeds 8 million yuan (excluding matching funds), and four research projects have been successfully concluded. The department has received two first prizes for scientific and technological progress from the Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Award, one second prize, and two third prizes from the Nanchong Municipal Science and Technology Award.

The department has hosted numerous national and provincial medical continuing education programs, organized national and provincial academic conferences, conducted health promotion activities for various medical societies, and carried out multiple free medical consultation and outreach activities.

Proactively arranging for medical and nursing staff to participate in tasks such as medical aid to Africa, support for Tibet, and counterpart support; actively participating in the formation of the Sichuan (North Sichuan) Emergency Medical Rescue Team.

The department has trained 50 master's degree candidates (including 13 currently enrolled), hosted over 40 visiting scholars from various hospitals, and undertaken teaching tasks for clinical medicine undergraduate programs, clinical medicine undergraduate excellent physician pilot classes, and medical imaging undergraduate programs at North Sichuan Medical College. The annual teaching workload is approximately 800 hours, with a 100% rate of theoretical lectures for senior titles.
